About Us
Polar Running Adventures is primarily operated by Irishman Richard Donovan, a three-time polar marathoner. In addition to organising the world's northernmost marathon - the North Pole Marathon - Polar Running Adventures now organises the world's southernmost marathon - the Antarctic Ice Marathon. Since its inception on 2002, the North Pole Marathon has quickly grown to be one of the most recognised marathons in the world. It commands extensive global media coverage, including from television such as BBC News 24, TV5 Monde, Eurosport, Al Jazeera English and numerous other networks. The Antarctic Ice Marathon & 100k, with only three editions so far, has drawn airtime on CNN World Sport, CBS News and Associated Press with French national TV on location to film the races. In addition, top international sports photographers - Mike King and Bertrand Mahe - have documented the event.
Crescent is owned by Cycleurope which is a part of Grimaldi Industri. Cycleurope is a consolidation of several companies and consists of well-established local and strong bicycle brands such as Crescent, Bianchi, DBS and Monark to name but a few. Initially having a Scandinavian presence only, Cycleurope has subsequently evolved to become a global actor with its main market in Europe. The Crescent brand gained the nickname of “world champion bike” in the mid-1950s when its name became synonymous with racing success due to some major victories by its cyclists. Since the beginning of the last century, Crescent has been strongly associated with quality and innovation - a reputation that Crescent has retained into the 21st century.
